SeaPattern highlights dual-use potential at Säkerhet & Beredskap 2026
SeaPattern’s CEO and co-founder Niklas Boman participated in a panel on defence innovation and strengthening Sweden’s dual-use ecosystem at Dagens industri’s Säkerhet & Beredskap 2026, in collaboration with Teknikföretagen.
During the discussion, Boman highlighted the need for procurement models that support innovation. While conventional public procurement focuses on existing products, developing new capabilities requires contracts that accommodate uncertainty and provide long-term conditions for development.
Originally developed for civilian hydropower, SeaPattern’s modular floating turbines also offer potential for defence applications. The units can be relocated, generate electricity without fuel and support operations independently of the surrounding grid where suitable flowing water is available.
These characteristics create opportunities for distributed renewable generation that can strengthen both national resilience and operational capability, connecting the energy transition with the need for a secure local electricity supply.
