As the Chief Sustainability Officer at SeaPattern, I believe that sustainable business is built on three fundamental dimensions: economic, social and environmental sustainability. Together, these pillars form a whole that creates long-term value for both the company and society at large. Balancing these dimensions is no simple task, but it is essential to be able to run a company that is future-proof and resilient in the face of upcoming challenges.
We are in the beginning of our journey as a company. What characterizes SeaPattern already at this early stage is that sustainability isn’t just something we talk about; it is embedded in the very foundation of how we do business. This is clearly outlined in our ownership directive, where sustainability has a prominent place in our long-term goals and strategies. All of SeaPattern’s founders agree that sustainability should not be a side activity or a “nice-to-have” but rather an integrated part of our overall business strategy.
Sustainability in Practice – Part of Everyday Life
As Chief Sustainability Officer, my goal is to integrate sustainability so deeply into the business that it becomes a natural consideration in every aspect of our operations. It should be present in every decision we make. When sustainability is considered as naturally as other business parameters, that’s when we have succeeded. Then it’s no longer a matter of balancing competing interests but about always taking into account how our decisions affect people, the planet and our profit—simultaneously.
Sustainability in everyday life might mean questioning whether we really need a certain resource or whether we can do something more efficiently. It could also involve improving our products to extend their life cycles. Another key part of our sustainability work is ensuring that everyone involved with SeaPattern feels engaged and sees their role in contributing to a more sustainable future.
At SeaPattern, we have already taken important steps toward making sustainability a part of our daily operations, and I look forward to continuing driving this work forward. For us, sustainability is a way to ensure that we can keep growing, evolving and making a difference in the world, now and in the future.
